iSolar UC completes the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the student center building. Now we just have to wait for the power inverters commissioning to generate solar energy (Link).

The PEClab professor Javier Pereda was awarded for his thesis “New Multilevel Converters: Asymmetries and Optimal Floating Capacitors“.  The award ceremony was held at the graduation of 125 doctors of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (Link).

Professor Javier Pereda won a Fondecyt grant for PEClab with the project “Flexible Asymmetric Cascaded Multilevel Converters: Control and Modulation for Variable Voltage and Power Asymmetries in Real-time”. This project will help to acquire new equipment for the lab and to assist students financially plus other benefits (Link).

Lab members attended the Seminary “Sistemas, Convertidores y Accionamientos de Alta Potencia 2013” (“Systems, High Power Converters and Drives 2013“), held on May 23 and 24, in the Pacific Hall of Enjoy Hotel in Viña del Mar. Professor Juan Dixon (DIE) exposed on “Efficient Transport Electrical Concepts” and Professor Javier Pereda (DIE) integrated the panel of experts (Link).  

Professor Javier Pereda, representing PEClab, attended to a breakfast called Sustainability in Innovation and Technology Transfer in Business. This event met academics and managers of local companies to discuss the next activities of NEIM (Millennium Nucleus of Industrial Electronics and Mechatronics). The meeting was held at Marriot Hotel in Santiago (Link).  

PEClab was present in the International Forum “Wind and Solar Power Chile 2012” as part of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and NEIM (Millennium Nucleus of Industrial Electronics and Mechatronics). This International Forum was organized by ACERA (Chilean Association of Renewable Energies) and it met most important companies that develop Solar and Wind Energies (Link).

Professor Juan Dixon attended the National Meeting of NCRE “Present and Future”, organized by NEIM (Millennium Nucleus of Industrial Electronics and Mechatronics) and realized in the Convention Center of Enjoy in Viña del Mar. Important people from politics, academics and companies were present in the event (Link).

The PEClab professors Javier Pereda Juan Dixon recently won, for second consecutive year, the award for best paper at the conference Electric Vehicles and Renewables Energies (EVER), held in Monaco, with his work “Cascaded converters for EVs with single power Increased power source and quality” (Link).  

PEClab participated in the first Electric Vehicle Expo of Chile, which was organized by the Club de Autos Eléctricos de Chile (Chilean Electric Vehicles Club). Professors Juan Dixon and Javier Pereda exposed 3 electric vehicles (Chevrolet LUV, Chevrolet S10 and Suzuki Maruti) equipped with the last stage-of-the-art technology. Also, Volta UC (PEClab partner) showed his car (Mitsubishi Lancer). This event counted with the presence of the Mrs. Maria Ignacia Benítez, Ministry for the Environment.

The PElab professors Juan Dixon and Javier Pereda won the medal Prince Albert II of Monaco 2011 at the Electric Vehicles and Renewables Energies Conference for present the best paper: “23-Level Inverter for Electric Vehicles Using Only One Power Supply and Series Active Filters” (La Tercera).
